CAPACITY BULIDING WORKSHOP FOR SELF HELP GROUPS - 27th FEBRUARY 2008
Radio Active conducted a workshop for Vimochana, an NGO dealing with women and women’s issues. Vimochana mobilized self help groups leaders for the session.
The participants were from different localities spread around Bangalore, Kolar and Mandya.
The main aim of the workshop was to explain the need to disseminate information about community radio, identify issues of community and the use of community radio in playing an active part.

CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR RESIDENTS OF JJ NAGAR AND AZAD NAGAR - MARCH 19th AND 20th 2008
As a follow up to the workshop in February, Radio Active in association with Vimochana conducted a capacity building workshop for the residents of JJ Nagar and Azad Nagar. About 45 community members participated in the workshop.

Reclaim India and Radio Active presented the concept of Building Blocks and Community Radio to the MES builders.

CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR HAKKI PIKKI TRIBES -12th JUNE 2008
As a follow up to the workshop in February 2008, Radio Active in association with Vimochana conducted a capacity building workshop for the Hakki Pikki tribes. The community members participated enthusiastically and two programmes were produced.

CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS OF CMS - 30th JUNE 2008 to 4th JULY 2008
Radio Active conducted capacity building workshops to the students of CMS on the concept of community radio and how radio can act as a tool of change. A total number of 500 students participated over the 5 day period. They were trained on programme production, recording and editing.

CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR SARATHI - 9th JULY 2008
Radio Active conducted a workshop for Sarathi, an NGO. About 18 members participated. The main aim of the workshop was explain the need to disseminate information about community radio, identify issues of community and the use of community radio in playing an active part.

FORMAL LAUNCH OF BUILDING BLOCKS - 4th AUGUST 2008
Reclaim India and Building Blocks formally launched Building Blocks on 4th August 2008.

POSTER COMPETITION ON ENVIRONMENT - 20th AUGUST 2008

Sarathi, Kalamandir and Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat and Ken School of Art, in association with Shri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College – Radio Active and Karnataka pollution Control Board, organized a poster making competition to raise awareness on the environment.
Following which all the participants produced radio programmes on the same.

CHAI- PANI SESSION AT BUILDING BLOCKS - 21st SEPTEMBER 2008

Radio Active and Reclaim India hosted a Chai-Pani session for the construction labourers in Banaswadi. At the session a movie on the importance of education was screened and the labourers were then asked to share their view, which was then recorded.

CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR RESIDENTS OF JEEVAN BHIMA NAGAR - 14th OCTOBER 2008
As a follow up to the workshop in February, Radio Active in association with Vimochana conducted a capacity building workshop for the residents of Jeevan Bhima Nagar. About 35 community members participated in the workshop.

GREEN FILM FESTIVAL - 23rd AND 24th OCTOBER 2008


The Jain Group of Institutions Community Radio - Radio Active 90.4 MHz in association with Eco Watch conducted a two-day Green Symposium and Film Festival at the Center for Management Studies. A unique art exhibition on Planet Earth by art students organised by the Tumkur Science Center was on display with a slogan writing competition which witnessed an overwhelming response.

To mark the inaugural of the event the Chairman of the Jain Group Mr. Chenraj Jain and Chairman of Ecowatch Mr. Suresh Heblikar symbolically planted a sapling to launch the Gene Pool project in the Kanakapura campus.

Suresh Heblikar of Eco watch gave the keynote address in which he spoke on Environment Economics and on the various development problems. He stressed on holistic approach to deal with environment problems. Chenraj Jain, Chairman of Jain Group spoke on the Revive Earth Programme and instead chose to interpret it as an entrepreneurial venture in an alternative fashion.

Films like K P Sasi’s Source of Life for Sale, If it Rains Again, Fight against Costal Invasion, Suresh Heblikar’s Shepherds on the move, Goru Kana, Water for Life, Western Ghats etc were screened, followed by presentations and open house discussions on sustainable development, bird conservation, water resource management, solid waste management, and displacement, rehabilitation and current status of Hakki Pikki tribes were addressed and students engaged with experts in arriving at solutions.

Noted documentary filmmaker K P Sasi spoke on various environment issues that are affecting the community today.

Radio Active team introduced Revive Planet Earth which is a programme by the community radio station involving students from schools and colleges and sensitizing them to take active measures to protect the environment.

Harish Bhat, scientist from Indian Institute of Science presented a paper and spoke on the Avian population in urban areas as key indicators in the ecosystem.

CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS OF ST.JOSEPHS COLLEGE - 19th NOVEMBER 2008
Radio Active conducted capacity building workshops to the students of St. Joseph on the concept of community radio and how radio can act as a tool of change. A total number of 20 students participated, following which the students interned at Radio Active for one month. They were trained on programme production, recording and editing.

HUMAN RIGHTS FILM FESTIVAL - 5th DECEMBER 2008
Radio Active, Jain College, Indian Social Institute (ISI) and South India Cell for Human Rights Education and Monitoring (SICHREM) organised several programmes to commemorate the “INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DAY" . As part of this initiative, a film festival was organised to sensitize students on Human Right issues.

Students from various colleges, Human Rights Organizations, women's movements, youth groups, NGO's and individuals participated. Their views were recorded by Radio Active.

NUTRITION CAMP HELD AT MATTIKERE SLUM -12th DECEMBER 2008
Radio Active and VOICES conducted a Nutrition camp for the residents of Mathikere as part of the Science for Women project. About 25 people attended the camp.
