The gates of Jain Vidyaniketan are always held wide open to
children who wish to learn and develop their lives. At present
1800 chidren from 97 villages of Kanakapura taluk in the Bangalore
Rural District have been admitted to the primary, middle and
high school section. The total strength fo the school will
ultimately be 3500 students. Jain Vidyaniketan creates a window
of opportunity for these deserving children from the poorest
sections of society, by providing a holistic, high quality
education free of cost.
"What greater or better gift can we offer than to teach
and instruct our health"
Swami Vivekanada had no illusions as to where the
power of a nation lay. Its youth, he said, was a country's
destiny.
Since quality education in the modern world is prohibitively
expensive many rural children are deprived of good schooling
which is their right. Millions are forced by circumstances
to be under achievers and sufferers of low self esteem. Where,
then, can one expect the productivity and knowledge so closely
associated with 'marching into the 21st century?'
The primary beneficiaries are of course, the students
themselves, because they learn and experience matter of importance
they would never have known other wise. However, benefiting
enormously too, are the parents, siblings and the other members
of their extended families.
Once children are enrolled in school, they are given all
the necessary support to instill in them the self-confidence
to perform their best, especially when they wish to pursue
further studies in their general main stream.
Teachers from Jain Vidyaniketan don't invite parents over
to the school for parent teacher meetings but visit the villages
to conduct meetings with them. A definite sense of involvement
is felt by parents and students who in turn motivate others
to pursue the path of education and enlightenment themselves.
