    Radio Active, as Bangalore’s first Community Radio station, is committed to using technology for the benefit of the human family. In doing so, we understand and recognize the value of interdependence and the enduring value of partnerships strengthened by a sense of common purpose. Collaboration, at an altruistic level, is multi-dimensional. It stimulates greater creativity in partners while multiplying the power of individual skills and knowledge. 

    Radio Active therefore wishes to partner with those who share our commitment to building public awareness, garnering support for meaningful social action and ameliorating suffering wherever possible.

    The RA Outreach programmes are an outcome of and a corollary to conduct fundamental to the JGI group- service before self. This philosophy is an intrinsic part of the JGI corporate philosophy and enshrined in a series of developmental programmes that together constitute “JGI Life.” 

    Our Approach  
    To ensure effectiveness and parity in performance, we consider the following points obligatory to all associates.
    • All partnerships will be exploratory in nature and will base themselves on the premise that ideas should be shared in confidence
    • RA will retain the right to editorial control, in the light of editorial integrity
    • All objectives should be mutually beneficial, clearly defined, equitably shared and editorially appropriate
    • Projects should delineate each partner’s obligations and contribution while being signatory to formal terms and conditions

    SCIENCE FOR WOMEN’S HEALTH – PART 1

    Role of Radio Active

    Radio Active helped in conducting the baseline survey and capacity building for VOICES where over a 1000 households in Mathikere and Yesthwantpur areas and the women and anganwadis workers were trained to identify health related issues and provide solutions by making community radio programs.

    As broadcast partners, Radio Active aired all the programs, while VOICES produced the programs

    PROJECT: BUILDING BLOCKS

    Title of the project BUILDING BLOCKS
    Partner Reclaim India, NGO working with children of construction labourers
    Objective of the project

    The main aim of the project is to educate the children of migrant construction workers, and focus on development and welfare of the labourers in general. An additional purpose will also include educating these nomadic and migrant labourers about community radio and how it can be used for their welfare and betterment.

    Role of Radio Active

    Radio Active partnered with Reclaim India to provide informal schooling for children from the age of 5 to 15. The aim is to impart literary and numerical skills together with basic life skills that will help them to earn a living as they grow older and if possible bring them into mainstream education.

    In addition, Reclaim India and Radio Active will supplement their efforts of providing basic education, organizing health camps, educating them about hygiene and sanitation, tackle alcoholism, address nutrition needs for the family, preventive medicines and vaccination schedules, creating AIDS and communicable diseases awareness, through the Radio

    SPOTLESS BANGALORE CAMPAIGN

    Title of the project SPOTLESS BANGALORE
    Partner The Golden Husk, an NGO working for community development
    Objective of the project

    The program is designed to sensitize students and develop a whole school community approach to waste management. It is important for the student to comprehend and realize the complexity of the world they live and make informed decisions and participate in the process of environmental conservation.

    Radio Active in association with Resident Welfare Associations, & Institutions will set up Waste Management Centers, Conduct Awareness programs through Radio, Set up Collection program through Self Help groups, and street workers, Setting up composting units and paper & plastic recycling unit etc.

    STREET ANIMAL WELFARE & MANAGEMENT

    Title of the project STRAY PALS
    Partner The Golden Husk, an NGO working for community development & animal welfare
    Objective of the project The main objective is:
    • To create awareness and mass education to the public stray dog management and welfare through focused radio programs
    • To involve communities in adopting stray dogs
    • To have mass sterilization and vaccination drives
    • To treat dogs that are mal-nourished, injured, diseased

    Radio Active will be involved in sensitizing communities, on community adoption of dogs, in addition to rescue, foster care, vaccinations and ABC programs, in addition to conducting puppy adoption camps.

    Main objectives of the Book & the Radio Series

    • Focus on individuals who are not breed conscious
    • Capture the journey of street dogs who have been rescued and the bonds they share with their adopters
    • Celebrate  the generosity of human spirit and angels in disguise
    • Having a pet at home can make a difference to the aged and the ailing
    • To tell the community that there are homeless dogs waiting to be adopted and cared for

    DISABILITY ISSUES- Radio Serial

    Title of the project Beyond Affliction- Radio Serial on Disability Issues
    Partner Sama Foundation, NGO working with people with disabilities
    Objective of the project

    Beyond Affliction is designed to promote empathetic understanding of disability and to forth equal opportunities to all.
    The serial focuses on the advocacy of disability-related issues and dissemination of information to disabled people, parents of children with disabilities and the general public.

    LGBT ISSUES

    Title of the project Who am I” focusing on LGBT(  Lesbian and Gays, bisexuals and Transgender
    Partner Sangama, NGO working with LGBT
    Objective of the project The project will explore issues faced by the group and look at addressing and finding solutions.
    The programs will cover issues from Gay Rights in India, to issues like housing, employment, education, sexual abuse, marriage, crime, human rights etc.
    It will also explore family relationships and look at sensitizing communities on these issues. Who am I” will enlighten these sensitive issues by means of street plays, drama’s, talks, discussion, etc through radio programs. Everybody has the right to live and the right to survive equally

    STORY TELLING

    ONDANONDU KALADALI: THE STORY HOUR
    Partner Hippocampus, NGO working with children
    Objective of the project

    Ondanondu Kaladali:  The Story Hour is a dedicated weekly show for story tellers and listeners, produced by Radio Active, supported by Hippocampus. This will include Stories, Folktales, Fairy Tales, Myths &Legends, History, Rhymes, and Facts & Fantasy etc

    MUKHA MUKHI- FACE OFF

    MUKHA MUKHI- FACE OFF
    Partner Auto Drivers in Bangalore
    Objective of the project He hosts a live radio program called Mukha Mukhi- Face Off made by general public, on issues ranging from power cuts, water shortage, garbage issues, street dog management,transport or general civic and social issues.
    Auto Shiv Kumar, moderates the discussion between general public and concerned authorities, with the aim of finding solutions  to common problems faced by the community members.

    PROJECT: RESISTANCE (AWARENESS CAMPAIGN ON DOWRY & DOMESTIC VIOLENCE)

    Title of the project Resistance- Awareness Campaign on Dowry & Domestic Violence
    Partner Organizations working on Women’s Issues
    Objective of the project Radio Active has partnered with and chartered a year long course of action to create awareness and sensitize the general public on issues of dowry – its understanding, cultural moorings, social implications, financial implications etc. The other area is Domestic Violence and the active role of community radio to not only create awareness but also reduce violence, educate general public to prevent and aid victims of abuse. The project also seeks to take a new look at the institution of marriage and help youngsters bring about a change in their own lives through dialogue, workshops, film festivals, street plays, radio dramas, group discussions, paintings, etc which will be highlighted and broadcast on Radio Active.

    Objective of the project Radio Active has a launched a special program  Empowering Adolescents, designed to provide teenagers and adolescent a life-long perspective about transitioning into adulthood.

    Self-Esteem Issues, Body Image, Peer Relationships, Understanding Reproductive Health issues and sexuality issues, Decision making, Grooming, Nutrition and Healthy eating, Cash Management with special focus on House-hold Budgeting, Legal rights, vocational training or hobby classes; where to seek assistance; and  Planning for future

    This project is spread over 2010- 2011 seeks to work with potential micro- entrepreneurs. ACCION”S Dialogue on Business is a business training module developed for adult learning based on the knowledge and experience of Entrepreneurs. The modules are participatory, unique and an award winning program.

    UNDERSTANDING PLANET EARTH FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN

    Title of the project Understanding Planet Earth for Women and Children
    Objective of the project

    The project will address the concerns of the citizens with their active participation, problem solving and revitalization of their basic life-sources like water, air, energy, soil, food requirements etc. In this project school children who will be trained on the same issues will serve as ambassadors and work actively with the radio station in producing radio programmes and social action initiatives for a cleaner, brighter and greener Bangalore. Specific programmes will be designed to train children, youth and women for disaster preparedness and mitigation. The programme will also involve addressing women’s issues in relation with health and environment that directly affects them and their families. These will include occupational hazards, vulnerability to weather related health problems like allergies, sanitation etc.
